Jared, the oldest son of Ken Mellick, began building his career in the construction industry at an early age. Accompanying his dad to job sites throughout his childhood and adolescence, he acquired skills in every aspect of custom home building. Shortly after the family’s move to Central Florida in 1989, together, he and his father founded the family business Universal Roofing Group, now Universal Roof & Contracting.
Certified as a Florida State Residential Contractor, Florida State Certified Building Contractor, Haag Certified Roof Inspector and Wind Mitigation Inspector, Jared also authored in 2007 the home improvement book, In the House; Answers to Common Home Improvement Problems and has been featured in numerous publications including Success Magazine. He has appeared on many Home Improvement television and radio broadcasts.
In 1999, he and his father, Ken, began co-hosting a live call-in home improvement radio show. Currently airing on two popular Florida talk radio stations, WDBO in Orlando and WOKV in Jacksonville, the father and son team enjoy dispensing practical home advice to callers and listeners every Saturday morning on "In the House with Ken & Jared".
As a family man, many of Jared’s relatives provide vital roles in administration, sales and production at Universal Roof and Contracting. His wife, Cara, is part of the team as an Interior Designer and also cares for their three sons at home. Determined and optimistic, Jared’s personal integrity, high standards and commitment to excellence in the construction industry has propelled Universal Roof & Contracting to a leading position in the Central Florida community and the Construction and Roofing Industry.
